Newport Pagnell Swimming Club – Report for 22rd November 2006

 

The club championships were swam at Stantonbury followed by the presentation of the trophies the weekend after at the Hockey Stadium. 83 swimmers took part in a total of 486 swims. In the course of the championships 8 club records were broken and 303 new personal best times set. The entries helped to raise £245 for Children in Need.

 

The Age group winners are established across the four disciplines with points awarded for each place. The 9 years and under boys winner was Oscar Friell and Sophie Patrick won the girls being placed first in all but the breaststroke. The 10 and 11 years boys was won by Andrew Barton. The girls 10 and 11 years was won by Eleanor Lewis who also won all but the breaststroke. The 12 and 13 years boys was won by David Willcox with maximum points. Hannah Wilson won the girls 12 and 13 years, winning all but the butterfly event.. Lisa Patrick won the girls 14 and 15 years closely followed by Natasha Barton. The boys 14 and 15 years age group was won by Carl Adamson who was first in all but the freestyle. Carl Harris won the boys 16 years and over, dropping just one point when Jonathan Fields beat him to the line in the freestyle event. The girls 16 years and over was shared by Ross Bray, Jennifer Dean and Claire Evelyn. Each won and event with Charlotte Errington winning the breaststroke.

 

Sophie Patrick broke three club records by swimming 2m 2.95s for 100m individual medley, 53.01s for 50m butterfly and 1m 52.92s for 100m backstroke. Elliot Moulder swam the 50m breaststroke in 43.63s for a new club record. Ros Bray won the 100m butterfly in a record time of 1m 13.4s and Lisa Patrick was not to be outdone by younger sister when she set a new club record of 2m 35.74s for 200m backstroke. In the same event Emily Young swam 2m 43.77s to set a new club record for her age. The girls 100m backstroke record was broken by Jennifer Dean in a time of 1m 11.63s.

 

A number of specialist trophies are swum for as well as the Age Group events. In total some 30 trophies have been presented to the club over the years by various benefactors. In the girls 8 years and under Sophie Patrick won both the Crafts Family Cup and the Iris Kenewell Trophy. In the Age groups to 12 years Christine Hooton won the Club Shield and the NPSC Trophy, with Sophie Reid winning the Stephen Grainger Trophy and Yasmin Bull the Dutch Shield.. Hannah Wilson won the Dearden Trophy, the Milton Trophy and the Stephen Guest Memorial Trophy in the under 14 years group. Lisa Patrick won the Bates Trophy in the under 16 years group. In the Open events Jenny Dean won the Kempster Trophy, the Americas Cup and the Newport Pagnell Co-operative Trophy. Charlotte Errington won the Mrs W Mitchell Trophy and the Fotsters Cup while Rosalind Bray won the Finlayson Trophy.

 

The boys have similar spoils available. Elliot Moulder won the Dutch Shield, the Atkinson Trophy and the Stephen Grainger Trophy. The Club Shield was won by Stephen Willcox. Going one better than his younger brother David Willcox won the Olney Trophy and the Stephen Guest Memorial Trophy. The James Trophy was won by Callum Moulder. David Willcox also won the Bates Trophy. Carl Harris had a field day in winning the Walter Beasley Cup, the W R Burke Trophy and the Newport Pagnell Co-operative Cup. Carl Adamson won the Durbridge Trophy and Kieran Woods the Americas Cup.
