Home Counties Final

The club made the short trip to Leighton Buzzard for the final round of the Home Counties League. The team, depleted owing to the last minute withdrawal of a number of swimmers, faired well and managed to come back from a slow start to score 259 points and push the Oxford B team into second place by just 9 points. Andrew Coles and Claire Evelyn were presented with the cup and shield by league secretary Matt Gomez.

The club’s swimmers came in first in 31 of the 50 events. Eight club records were set by the various relay teams. The 11 years squad set records at each of their four outings, the 15 years swimmers set three records and the 13 years girls achieved a record in the medley event.

Although the swimming was always competitive only 5 personal best times were set by the squad. In the 11 years 50m backstroke Marie Patrick bettered her previous time (41.76s) and Hannah Wilson did likewise in the 11 years 50m breaststroke (48.45s). The 15 years age group saw Jonathan Fields better his previous best in the 100m backstroke (1m 14.29s) while Charlotte Errington ventured into the butterfly arena and beat her previous best for 100m (1m 22.97s). Her comment afterwards was ‘Can I go home now?’. Earlier on in the gala Sasha Woods showed Charlotte the way and lowered her best time in the 100m butterfly in the open event (1m 29.00s).

All in all an excellent result.
