13th November 2004 - Speedo League Round 2
A visit to Wellingborough for the second round of the Speedo League saw the club return triumphant over the home team by 15 points. In the course of the gala 11 club records were broken and 11 personal best times set.
All of the club records were broken in relay events. The successful squads were the girls and boys 9 to 11 years who were Hannah Wilson, Chelsey Hawkins, Marie Patrick and Frances Merridan for the girls and David Willcox, Paul Harvey, Sam Balmbra and Matthew Leydon for the boys, taking both the freestyle and medley records. The boys and girls 15 years and under, consisting of Jenny Dean, Charlotte Errington, Rosalind Bray and Louisa Prentice and Harry Simpson, Jonathan Fields, Carl Harris and Joe Medrek, also beat the freestyle and medley records. The squads of Claire Evelyn, Charlotte Errington, Jenny Dean and Sasha Woods and William Jones, Chris Hill and Dean Tilley broke the open medley records. The boys also broke the freestyle record and although the girls won their freestyle event they didn’t beat the existing record.
The in form swimmers in the individual events that beat their pervious personal best times were Rosalind Bray (individual medley and butterfly), Jonathan Fields (backstroke and freestyle), Marie Patrick (backstroke and butterfly), Carl Adamson (breaststroke), Natasha Barton (butterfly), Carl Harris (butterfly), Daniel Heath (butterfly) and Kieran Woods (freestyle). In achieving these times Rosalind, Natasha and Jonathan also won their events. Both Carl and Kieran took 3 seconds off their previous best times. Jonathan was just 0.18 seconds off the club record with his swim in the freestyle.
Individual swimmers that added six points to the clubs’ tally for each of their first places were Jenny Dean in the backstroke and freestyle events, Charlotte Errington for the breaststroke in both her age group and the open events and Matthew Leydon in the breaststroke event.
