Report for 3rd July 2004
The club sent a full squad to Leighton Buzzard for their relay gala. The outcome was a disappointing 3rd place. The format of the gala was that each age group swam a relay in each discipline. The penultimate event involved the whole squad in a 32 length freestyle race and the final event a bit more strenuous with a mixed team of 8 each swimming a length in their T-shirts. This format meant that swimmers were normally competing in 6 events, with some being in as many as 11 events.
Nine club records were set including the boys freestyle and medley events in the 14 years, 16 years and open age groups in addition to the girls 14 years. The girls 16 years added the medley event and the open group the freestyle event. The swimmers involved in various combinations were Adam Ingledew, Andrew Coles, Andrew Marshall, Chris Page, Daniel Heath, Gareth Willcox, Joe Medrek, Jonathan Fields, Kieran Woods, Tom Holdroyd and William Jones for the boys and Claire Evelyn, Jenny Dean, Lisa Patrick, Natasha Barton, Rachel Hpa, Ros Bray and Sasha Woods for the girls.
Success was limited in the specific discipline events with a small number of wins coming from the 14 years boys and 16 years girls in backstroke and 12 and 14 years boys and 16 years girls in the butterfly events. The 12 year old boys won both the freestyle and medley events along with the open group girls in the freestyle event. The boys swimmers involved were Adam Ingledew, Andrew Marshall, Daniel Heath, David Willcox, Jonathan Fields, Kieran Woods, Matthew Leydon and Paul Harvey with the girls comprising Claire Evelyn, Jenny Dean, Ros Bray, Sarah Hpa, Sasha Woods, Vicky Coles and Vicky Scripps.
Over the weekend the City of Milton Keynes Swimming Club held their end of season open meet at Stantonbury Campus. Seventeen of the club’s swimmers competed and achieved 27 personal best times, broke two club records and took 8 gold medals.
In the respective age group events Jennifer Dean won the 100m individual medley
while Claire Holland achieved a personal best time in her only event, 100m
breaststroke. Hannah Howitt won the 50m breaststroke and swam her fastest to
date in the 200m breaststroke. Rachel Hpa beat her
previous best time in the 100m individual medley while her younger sister Sarah
bettered her times in the 100m and 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke. Robyn
Varley achieved personal bests in the 100m freestyle and individual medley with
Hannah Wilson beating her previous times in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke
and 100m individual medley.
In the boys events Edward Baxter beat his previous best time in winning the 50m freestyle and also set a fastest time in the 200m freestyle. Ben Flaherty had an exceptional gala and won all four of his outings, being 200m freestyle, breaststroke and individual medley and 50m breaststroke. His 200m individual medley time was also a personal best. The other gold medal was won by Dam Ingledew in the 100m backstroke. Adam also beat his previous best time in the 100m butterfly. Personal best times were also set by David Willcox in the 100m backstroke, Harry Simpson in the 50m freestyle and Thomas Moore in the 50m backstroke. William Jones achieved a milestone in setting his personal best time for the 100m freestyle at less than 1 minute. He also bettered his 50m freestyle time. The longer distances proved to be very successful for Andrew Marshall and Dean Tilley. Andrew broke the club record for 13 year boys in the 400m individual medley with a time of 5m 58.49s and set a new personal best time in his other event, the 200m individual medley. Dean set the club record for 15 year boys 400m freestyle with a time of 4m 37.19s. He also set personal best times in the 200m backstroke and freestyle.
