St Neots Open, Wellingborough B Grade, Aylesbury B Grade
A group of 13 swimmers competed in the St Neots Open gala.
Stephen Willcox won the boys 50m butterfly event with a time of 48.61s. Elliot Moulder was second in the 50m freestyle and backstroke with times of 42.10s and 50.62s respectively. Third places were achieved by Alice Butler in the 100m individual medley (1m 27.56s) and Kirsten Baggaley in the 50m freestyle (42.14s).
Alice’s time of 49.59s was too fast for the 50m breaststroke control time as was a time of 40.61s in the 50m freestyle for Ashling Baggaley.
One club record was broken and 14 personal best times set. The club record went to Alice Butler who recorded 32.90s for the 50m freestyle in her age group. Personal best times were set by Ashling Baggaley (1), Kirsten Baggaley (2), Danielle Beaman (2), Alice Butler (3), Evie Butler (1), Emily Young (1), Taylor Saunders (1), Elliot Moulder (1) and Stephen Willcox (2).
A visit to Wellingborough for a B grade invitation meet saw the club finish in second spot behind Linslade Crusaders.
First places were achieved in five of the relay events, being the 14 years boys and girls freestyle, the 12 years boys freestyle and medley and the 16 years girls freestyle.
Alice Butler set a new club record for her age in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1m 12.80s, unfortunately being to fast to score any points for the team. Other swimmers that outperformed the control times were Rachel Mason, Carl Harris and Paul Harvey. Carl set a new personal best time in the butterfly with his efforts.
Maximum points were scored in individual events by David Willcox in the butterfly, Callum Moulder, Jonathan Fields, Marie Patrick and Sasha Woods in the breaststroke, Chloe Errington and Rachel Hpa in the backstroke and Claire Holland in the freestyle. All except David and Claire set personal best times for their efforts.
Other personal best times were set by Hannah Wilson in the butterfly, Sarah Hpa, Paul Harvey and Carl Harris in the breaststroke and Rachel Mason, Paul Harvey and Douglas Holland in the freestyle.
A visit to Aylesbury for another B grade gala saw the club again in second place, this time behind Witney.
Three club records were set in the various relay events. The 12 years girls consisting Robyn Varley, Chloe Errington, Marie Patrick and Evie Butler set a time of 2m 58.60s in the medley relay. The 12 years girls also set a time of 2m 22.64s in the freestyle relay with a team of Hannah Wilson, Marie Patrick, Frances Merridan and Alice Butler. The 14 years boys team of Kieran Woods, Paul Harvey, Daniel Heath and Thomas Moore set a time of 2m 33.24s in the medley event.
Rachel Hpa in the freestyle and George Hill in the breaststroke both set personal best times that were too fast for the control times in the event.
Personal best times were also set by Thomas Moore and Robyn Varley in the freestyle, Carl Harris in the breaststroke and butterfly and David Powley in the backstroke. David and Carl both came home first in their events.
More first places were added by the 12 years boys and the open age group girls medley relay teams. Individual firsts were recorded by Daniel Heath in the butterfly, Jenny Dean in the freestyle and Kieran Woods in the breaststroke.
