Home C Grade + Nuneaton Open
The club hosted a C grade invitation gala at which they came out the winners. The gala was a little disappointing in that two of the invited teams did not turn up; however the enthusiasm of those that took part more than made up for the depleted competition.
Club records were broken by a number of the relay teams. Both the boys and girls teams in the 10 years, 12 years and 14 years beat the previous times for the freestyle events and the 12 years and 14 years teams also set new records in the medley events. This haul will keep chairman Bill Jones busy for a while writing out all of the competitors certificates. The Open age group girls won both of their relay outings
A number of personal best times were also set. At the longer distance of 100 meters Alison Reynolds bettered her backstroke time while in the freestyle Vicky Coles and Kieran Woods improved on their previous best. The shorter distance, 50 meters, for the younger swimmers, saw the breaststoke provide a family affair for the Howitts, with Hannah and Thomas bettering their previous best times. In the backstroke Emily Young, Elliot Edmonson and Paul Harvey were all successful in setting new personal best times. The strenuous butterfly discipline proved to be successful for Hannah Wilson, David Willcox, Harry Simpson and Louisa Prentice. The younger age groups saw successes in the freestyle with personal best times for Matthew Rutherford, Sam Balmbra, Stephen Willcox and Robyn Varley.
Additional first places were achieved by Andrew Marshall in the 100m backstroke, Louisa Prentice in the 100m breaststroke and Alice Butler and Frances Merridan in the 50m freestyle.
A group of 16 boys and 22 girls entered the Nuneaton Open Sprint meet and came away with a veritable array of honours. At an individual level a total of 71 personal best times were set.
New club records were set by Jonathan Fields in the 50m freestyle (27.77s) and Charlotte Errington in the 50m breast stroke (35.86s). The girls open age group freestyle relay team, consisting of Jenny Dean, Sasha Woods, Claire Evelyn and Rosalind Bray also broke the club record in achieving their first place. Other first places were achieved by Charlotte Errington in the breaststoke, Rosalind Bray in the backstroke and freestyle and Claire Evelyn in the butterfly.
Emily Young, Sasha Woods and William Jones recorded personal best times in all four disciplines. William also reached the Skins final, in which he came third.
