Question for the Coach?

Les will be available to answer questions after training on a Saturday morning

NPSC is one of the oldest swimming clubs in England, which began in 1890 down on the river Ouse.  No smart swimming pools in those days!  Today the need for a swimming club is as great as ever with so much water around us - rivers, lakes and canals.  The club, which is committee run, mainly uses  Middleton Pool in Newport Pagnell, but we also use Leon Pool in Bletchley and The High School pool in Bedford, in order to fit in all the sessions needed by an active competitive club.

Our classes are named.  We begin with Tadpoles, then progress through Minnows, Trouts, Eels, Otters and finally to Sharks.  These names help to give the swimmers identity and encourage them to progress through the classes.  The Classes Gala takes place in June each year and is arranged by the class rather than the age of the swimmer.  Keen swimmers may be moved from Otters or Sharks to the Development Squad, where real training begins.  There are three stages in the Development Squad where the emphasis is still on technique but where we begin to develop stamina and speed.  Swimmers in the squads have an opportunity to swim in galas, both at home and away.  Our senior squad swimmers compete in Speedo, Chiltern, Home Counties and Milton Keynes Junior Leagues and in a variety of B and C grade galas.  They also take part in a variety of Open Meets as well as the County Championships. The Club Championships are held in October/November each year.

We currently have members who have represented their county, are county champions and several who have achieved Midland qualifying times.

What do we expect from our swimmers ?

Good, honest effort in regular training and a commitment to swim for the club when selected.

What is the club's commitment ?

We aim to enable each swimmer to reach their own competitive swimming potential.

AND SO TO BUSINESS

You will be charged an Annual Membership Fee to belong to the Club.    This is to register and meet all insurance requirements.  For insurance purposes we must insist that all parents staying on poolside during lessons are also members, and for this purpose we have a Family Membership to help make this affordable.  The Membership Fee for swimmers is set annually by the committee.  The club year runs from January to December.  Class fees are payable on a 10 week period.  Squad fees are paid monthly.

At Middleton Pool we swim  each Tuesday throughout the year, apart from the learn to swim classes which do not swim in August.    Half terms and Bank Holidays do not affect us unless the pool is closed for reasons beyond our control.  Classes are taught in half-hour sessions between 5.30-7.00pm in both the learner pool and main pool.  On acceptance into the Club the swimmer will be allocated a time to attend.  Progression through the classes will then be at the Teachers discretion.  We do try to move swimmers simultaneously throughout the pool, but as abilities vary, this is not always possible.  All teachers used by the club are qualified to at least minimum ASA standards.

Badges are an important measure of progress for young swimmers and we are trying to use the Water skills programme to offer something more than just distance badges.  A notice will be displayed from time to time notifying the date of the next distance badge night.  Tadpole and Sharks lessons will continue as normal on these nights.  All other lessons are cancelled to make room in the pool.

We try to publish a newsletter several times a year and this is given out from the desk on Tuesday.  There is also a Club noticeboard on the wall by the learner pool.   PLEASE ENSURE YOU LOOK REGULARLY ON THIS BOARD FOR INFORMATION. The committee is elected each year at the AGM in November.  The date will be advised to all adult members.  A list of committee members is posted on the notice board.
